Test Preparation
Inform students that review for tests should be review, not learning new material.
The goal for the review process is the same for all students:
Inform students to make plans and set goals for their study periods. Here are some steps in test preparation:
1. Be informed about the test - format, topics, etc.
2. What are your resources for review, i.e. study groups, instructor, learning centre, lecture notes, textbook notes, lab notes
3. Establish a good environment for study
4. Plan the order in which you will go through the material
5. Set goals for the topics that you want to know really well
6. Identify topics that need special attention because they are difficult for you
7. Apply cognitive strategies for active review
- More than just reading - test yourself, recite out loud, make notes, teach it, etc.
- Collect information from all sources such as textbook, lecture notes, etc.
- Study from summarized notes, highlighting, etc.
